Two things I love: Car Shows and Photography. And what better time to indulge myself...??
My favorite car in the whole world is a 1960 Corvette. It is the very definition of "sexxxxxy" It's classy, chic, and just demands your undivided attention.
Classic cars, in general, are an art form. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of anything (with a few exceptions) post 1980-ish. At least when it comes to design, class and sex appeal.
That said, it occurred to me today, that I have a rather strange way of capturing these cars. I'm not particularly interested in the cars, as a whole. It's the individual sections or parts of a car that I find appealing. Usually, it's a fender. Or a fender/tire/logo combination. I like the way that everything comes together, in that specific location, to form that car's "zen" (for lack of a better word).
For starters, I really just love the way this shot turned out. That said, I think its the spare tire that has me captivated. As a whole, the car (and my dad would be ashamed of me for not remembering exactly what it is) is rather bland, but the extra wire spoke spare tire, adds a whole new dimension to it. Also, I love tilted pictures. A lot.
Definitely the fender. I like the old bulbous fenders.
Imperial. Classy. Regal. Excellent use of negative space. The white body with the white wall tires, offset by the black wheel and the sleek silver trim. Elegant. Simple. Tasteful.
What can I say? I'm a sucker for fenders!! The rest of this car is actually fairly simple. Everything is just up at the front. Mercury. Comet. Bold lines in the grill, with one simple line all the way to the back.
Check out the back end on this Impala. (Please note that the new Impala's are not NEARLY as interesting. They look like every other car on the road, these days.) Three back tail lights and note how the trunk isn't cut just straight across from side to side. This has dimension. Intrigue. Class.
Speaking of Intrigue & Dimension. Back to the Corvette. The dashboard is also fascinating to look at. And it should be, if you're going to be driving it. You can't see it in this picture, but the rear-view mirror is actually standing on the dash, not hanging from the windshield. Very well done, Chevy...
